Welcome to the 20th episode of The EverQuest Show, I’m Fading here in the EverQuest Show studios.

It’s been nearly 25 years since EverQuest first took the gaming world by storm.  Most gamers know it revolutionized the gaming industry especially online gaming.

But its impacts are even farther reaching.

This episode is dedicated to how EverQuest has changed the world…And continues to do so.

EXTRA LIFE FUND RAISING

For the last 3 years, Daybreak and Darkpaw Games have teamed up with the Extra Life fundraising program for Children’s Miracle Network.

Ephyr: Children’s Miracle Network is a funding organization for Children’s hospitals across the country.

That’s EverQuest Player and Extra Life streamer, Ephyr.

Ephyr: I’ve been playing EverQuest since 2000. I play EverQuest 2 as well.

Not only does he help fundraise for Extra Life, but he also has a personal connection.

Ephyr: I’ve seen the kind of care that the hospitals provide. And I’ve personally been a recipient of the care there. I had surgery there when I was 19.

So how does the program work? You raise money by playing games.

Some of the streamers, on behalf of their team, like Team Darkpaw, raise money through streaming their video gaming.

Following closely behind Ephyr is another streamer who’s gaining popularity and adding donations.

Kuvani: It was a no brainer for me. When my favorite game was partnering with raising money for children. That’s a no brainer fo rme to try and help. I love every aspect of EverQuest. The community is what keeps most of us in EverQuest. I just fee like I’m helping make a difference in people’s lives. I don’t think people realize with charities in general how little it takes to make a difference. If you have any type of a platform, I really think you should try to do good with it.

And the donations are doing a lot of good.

Over the last 15 years, the program has raised over $110 million dollars for children’s hospitals throughout the country. The donations help fund life-saving treatments, healthcare services, research and equipment.

Teams can raise money for all the Childrens Miracle Network Hospitals, or can target their specific local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital to make a direct impact in their community.

Darkpaw Games has targeted Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego, where Darkpaw is located.

And it’s a cause that has a personal connection for Jennifer Chan, the head of the studio.

Jenn Chan: Ages ago when my spouse was a wee little one, they had to have an operation. And without the care of Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego, they likely wouldn’t be here today. So I definitely owe a debt of gratitude to Rady Children’s Hospital.

And Darkpaw isn’t just helping to raise a few bucks, they are one of the leading fund raising teams in the entire country!

Last Year, Darkpaw Games, along with their Daybreak Games super team together raised over 200,000 dollars!

This year, the Darkpaw Games team is already over 100,000 with a final push right around the corner. And as of this edit, was 2nd in the team rankings!

So what’s their secret?

Well, generous players, along with some very enticing incentives for EverQuest and EverQuest II players.

So what are those bonuses?

Individual donations made on behalf of Darkpaw Games through the Extra Life website result in various in-game rewards.

The individual rewards are tiered, based on how much you donate.

So, This Year…

  • For 5 dollars you receive a special suffix title “the Compassionate”
  • For 10 bucks you’ll receive 3 overseer packs
  • At 25 dollars you’ll receive a metamorph wand for a blue baby dragon pet
  • And at 50 dollars a special hat ornamentation in Extra Life Blue.
  • At the 100 dollar tier, the Brilliant Blue Braxi mount can be yours…

And the rewards are cumulative…so at 100$ you not only get the Brilliant Blue Braxi Mount, but you get all the tiers below it.

And for every interval of 100 dollars you receive a set of those rewards. So donate $300 and you’ll get 3 sets of all those incentives.

Donate $305 dollars and you’ll get the 3 sets plus an additional blah blah.

Now last year, the individual incentives were a huge hit, mainly because of some Big Duck Energy.

The Majestic Mallard Mount was introduced for the first time in EQ.

The model is actually adapted from an EverQuest 2 mount that was created by EverQuest artist Tom Tobey.

The fund raising takes place year round, but it all culminates into the annual Extra Life Day, in which tabletop gamers and board gamers can game for 24 hours or more, non-stop if they want to, all in an effort to raise money for Extra Life.

Calendar Dates to know:

Extra Life Game Day is on November 4th.

November 6  the collective rewards are tallied.

There are also Collective Rewards. These are based on the total amount raised for the entire team. If Darkpaw reaches various milestones, we the players get various bonuses in game for a full week.

Starting on November 7th, the bonuses will go into effect and will end on November 14.

And these bonuses are pretty good incentives!

But you can still donate through the end of 2023 to receive those individual rewards. Periodically through that time frame, batches of rewards emails are sent out to donors with reward keys.

EverQuest not only has changed the world, but it continues to make a better future through Darkpaw Games fund raising efforts for Children’s Miracle Network.

EverQuest Changing The World
