It’s time for a little Dragons 101, and if you’re looking for some lore about the dragons of EverQuest, you’ve come to the right place.
What folllows is a very abridged Cliff’s Notes version of the dragons of EverQuest.
The great crystalline dragon, ruler over the Plane of Sky, deposited life onto a lifeless planet. And with one swipe of her mighty claws, laid claim to the promise of a new world.
EverQuest Original Trailer

That great crystalline dragon is Veeshan, (Which for those that didn’t know is an anagram of HEAVENS), Veeshan is the god of the dragons, and those first dragons to be put on Norrath are known as the First Brood.
Among those are some dragons you are familiar with…

Lord Yelinak, Zlandicar and Klandicar, Sontalak….
Over time, more dragons are hatched and populate the world of Norrath.

Veeshan hasn’t been seen since, but other gods took note of her acts on Norrath and decided to do the same. That how we ended up with elves, dwarves, kedge and all the other races on Norrath, designed as a form of checks and balances on the dragons, and each other.
The Arrival of Kerafyrm
At some point, two dragons of opposing elements decided to mate, an act that was forbidden by Veeshan, the result of which was a prismatic offspring.
While the dragons that mated are unknown, that prismatic dragon is Kerafyrm.

The parents of Kerafyrm were punished by death and the orphaned Kerafyrm was raised instead by Kildrukaun and very quickly the strength and hunger for power was evident as Kerafyrm grew into Adolescence.
Veeshan’s Code of Laws
The dragons went about ruling themselves establishing Veeshan’s Code of Laws to rule dragon kind.
The most important was 1) Dragons of Opposing Elements must never mate.
And 2) Dragons cannot kill other dragons.
The Split of Dragon Factions
While dragons agreed on these ideas, they were split on whether to interfere and intervene with what they considered the lesser races of Norrath, or to remain out of the affairs of the remainder of Norrath.

Thus the dragons splintered into two factions, The Claws of Veeshan, who inhabit the ancestral lands of Velious, and a smaller faction of dragons who flew to Kunark and set up The Ring of Scale.

The Claws of Veeshan were led by Lord Yelinak and ruled over the city of Skyshrine and established a holy temple in the “Scars of Velious” which were supposedly the marks Veeshan’s claw made on the planet.
Meanwhile, the Ring of Scale, established Veeshan’s Peak on the continent of Kunark, where it wasn’t too long before the lesser races like the iksar became more of a concern.

Becoming The Sleeper
Back in the Claws of Veeshan, Kerafyrm’s hunger for power and Kildrukaun’s belief that the powerful Kerafyrm would reunite the Claws of Veeshan and the Ring of Scale, led to a War within the Claws of Veeshan.
Lord Yelinak battled Kerafyrm and after a clever ruse by Lord Yelinak, Kerafyrm was tricked by Yelinak and 4 powerful crusader dragons into being put into a deep sleep, since by Veeshan’s code, dragons could not kill another dragon, even a prismatic one.

And thus, Kerafyrm became known as the Sleeper.
The Iksar Rise to Power
The Claws of Veeshan are still ruled by Yelinak on Velious, and the Ring of Scale continue their rule in Kunark, though their interaction with the Iksar directly impacts the history of that continent.

The Sathir line of Emperors, from Venril to his great grandson Ganak, have direct impacts on dragonkind, from wars between the two, to the creation of new races like the Sarnak (A cross between dragon and iksar created by Atrebe Sathir ) and the sokokar (a cross between a dragon and a froglok).
All of these events happened before we even begin our adventures in Norrath, and through our actions and adventures, and 30 expansions of happenings, the world unfolds before our eyes.
