“EverQuest Dungeons” (“EverQuest X”)
Comments continue to roll in on the EverQuest Dungeons artwork released in the most recent episode of the EverQuest Show.

The art generated a lot of conversation about the art direction of the project and I wanted to provide a few clarifications to the story.
First, the overarching theme of the comments was that this didn’t feel like EverQuest at all. I agree with many of you, and I’m not sure that this is what I *think* I want in the next iteration of EverQuest.
However, a couple of points that I want to make here:
There were a few parts of the interview that I edited for brevity, that discussed specific former developers that were heading up the project. I wanted to steer away from that to get at the heart of the story which was the art direction. But by doing so, it may have been lost that many of the controversial concepts, like the dwarves made of living clay were Farzad’s. He was merely taking ideas that were posited to him and he did was he was tasked, reimagining EverQuest in a new and creative way.
Now, I sat on this interview for nearly a year, but out of respect for Daybreak games, I did not air it because Darkpaw was not ready to discuss it.
However, given Ji Ham’s EG7 presentation and the new direction that was outlined, I was finally able to bring it to light.
At this point it bears repeating, that this show, The EverQUest Show is not monetized in any way. I make absolutely no money or compensation of any kind and I am not affiliated with Daybreak or Darkpaw. I am just a fan that wants our beloved franchise to prosper for years to come.
Which brings me to the next point, and one that I myself struggle with when discussing what a future EverQuest MMO may look like.
We, as fans, need to be more open minded.
Yes, I know we’re opinionated. We’re stuck in our ways. We’re playing a 25 years old game for Karana’s sake.
But for the sake of the franchise, we should be willing to look at *some* new ideas. Now, I’m not saying all ideas are good ideas.
But we already have a game like EverQuest 1. It’s called EverQuest. And we already have a game like EverQuest 2, …well you get the picture.
The difficult task will be finding that right balance of capturing the old *feel* of EQ while also bring a new, and more importantly different game into the fold.
And this is why I think Ji Ham’s development model of 80-10-10 is a good one.
But I want to make a clairifcation from Episode 19. More clearly that development model should have been labeled as a Variant of 80-10-10.
It could be 60-20-20 or a different balance. The 80-10-10 model is a more generic term for the franchise model that EG7 would like to utilize moving forward.
However, for a new EverQuest MMO, it most certainly will stray from those specific numbers.
As you can tell, the latest episode had a lot to cover.
If you haven’t yet, be sure to check out the concept drawings from the previously unannounced EverQuest project and let us know what you think. That’s in Episode 19 of The EverQuest Show, available now.
Holiday Events
Getting back to current events, Nights of the Dead continues in game for EverQuest and EverQuest two,
For EverQuest II the events end on November 2nd at 11:59 pm Pacific and in EverQuest the event runs a bit longer, until November 7th. The Feast of Giving tasks will follow shortly thereafter.
For EverQuest, The Direct X port which was originally scheduled to launch with the October patch has been postponed to a later date which is not currently set.
It is still being tested on Beta and Test servers but some critical issues have kept it from going live.
Which brings us to Beta
Beta
Betas are ongoing for Ballads of Zimara in EverQuest II and for Laurion’s Song in EverQuest. But for access to Beta you must pre-order the expansion.
Vah Shir Heritage Crates
Some new heritage crates have been made available on the EverQuest market place.
Vah Shir heritage crates are out with a wide variety of Luclin themed items.
There’s a resplendent owlbear saddle, a shissar illusion and lots of fun housing items.
There are also some pet metamorph wands and of course, some Vah Shir Hero’s Forge sets.
Extra Life update
We’re getting very close to Extra Life Game Day on November 7 and the Daybreak Team and their affiliated fundraisers has already raised over 100,000.
So they added some stretch goals and increased the potential collective rewards.
If Darkpaw raises $125k collectively, they’ll bump up the additional rare drop % for EverQuest II and for EverQuest the percent chances for additional loot, lower the collection spawn rate and you’ll get even more plat from loot.
You still have until 10AM Pacific time on November 6, 2023 to donate to add to those collective stretch goals, and you have until the end of the year to donate to Extra Life to benefit Children’s Hospitals around the country and get some cool in game items.
Next Episode
And make sure you don’t miss the next episode of The EverQuest Show featuring some of the biggest EverQuest streamers raising money for the Extra Life charity.
